Sister Missisippi

I made this prayer cloth for the Sister Missisippi Textile/Fiber Arts Project.

This is the story:
On March 1, a group of Indigenous women began their walk from the headwaters of the Mississippi River all the way to the Gulf of Mexico as a healing prayer for the River, for Water. We are calling on all hands and hearts of the world – hands of artists, of young people, of women, of communities, of schools - to create fiber/textile pieces inspired in Water, in the Mississippi, as a healing prayer for the River and to accompany the women and their supporters as they walk the talk. These pieces will be sewn together on April 27-28 with healing, mending stitches to form the Sister Mississippi.

How to Mend Her Broken Heart: The Sister Mississippi River

A vision came of many, many hands coming together in a healing
prayer by creating, weaving, beading, stitching, patching, mending, felting, embroidering, knitting and then putting together the pieces of a long, handmade Sister Mississippi river. The fibers, the stitches, will make her better and she will feel the love from this gesture of many hearts and hands.

Participants should do this art and handwork with all of their intentions and prayers for the River, and all of their support and gratitude for the women who are praying with their walk. People are also invited to share the stories, histories and struggles of their peoples and communities for Water.

Is it finished?

a dress like this is never really finished because you can keep on stitching on it.........and i will!

As you  see i can stand on both of my feet again, a little uncertain and wobbly but i can stand and thats the most important. Yesterday i walked 500 m downtown and back again. Really proud and happy. Tomorrow i walk the stairs to my atelier for the first time in two months....halleluja!
Now the dress is finished  i'll collect papers and cloth so i can finish the last traveling journal for Susanne. Life is good...............

Almost finished

My feet could not move but my hands could. So.........for the first time in my life i stitched a dress all by hand. Some more days are needed, then its finished.

Over the last two years i have been participating in a travelling journal project. We where 7 international artists. We made our own book and send it around so each of us could work in all the books. Mine has arrived and i show some pages.
There are more pages..............i'll show them over time...........

Its all about art

Imagen you want to go to the toilet and take the wrong door.....into the cellar.

Your Achilles tendon tears because this is not the best place for your weight to rest.

Scene 1. Hospital: operation room.
Dr.: which anesthetic do you want? Total anesthesia or epidural?
Mrs B.: Whats best? I have no experiance
Dr.: Total is bad for the brain
Mrs. B.: So give me epidural cause there;s not much brain left anyway.

Scene 2.  Hospital: operation room. Mrs B is situated on her belly on the op table, waiting for things to happen.
Anesthesist: are you comfy?
Mrs B.: yes and bored, i would like some action.
Anesthesist: would you like to watch the op?
Mrs B.: yes please

Scene 3. operation room.  A camera is placed and a screen for Mrs B to follow the
event.
Two  nice young man, called doktor, start working Mrs. B's leg.
they make two cuts on either side of the Achilles tendon,
they  work on it for a while with a long needle and thread and then close it carefully. Meanwhile discussing what is the most interesting place to celebrate carnaval.

Mrs B. Thinking................
its all about art. What they do looks alot to  what i do.
They smere alot of color over the working area, they cut and sew and have fun..............

een mottig verhaal

Ik heb deze ecoprinted vilten lappen in de tuin gehangen , in de vrieskou...........I want to tell you the story of moths......
omdat die motten mij geergerd hebben... they pissed me of!
Imagen you have a very much beloved soft woollen scarf, its cold outside now so you want to wear it but.................moths!
Now you must know moths are the only animals i hate so i took some ecoprints on felt out of my atelier and put them outside in the freesing cold. If............there are moths in it.............that'll teach em!
